If you are concerned about Breast Cancer be sure to follow this routine regularly.

Five Steps to Examine your Breast

STEP 1:
Look into a mirror, shoulders straight and arms on your hips. What you should look for:

  • Breasts looking their usual size, shape and colour.
  • Breasts that are evenly shaped without swelling and visible distortion.

If you see any of the following changes, make an appointment with the doctor:

  • A nipple that has changed position or an inverted nipple (pushed inward instead of sticking out.
  • Dimpling, puckering, or bulging of the skin.
  • Redness, soreness, rash, or swelling.

    STEP 2:
Now raise your arms above your head and look for the same changes.

    STEP 3:
While you're looking into the mirror, gently squeeze each nipple between your fingers and thumb and check for nipple discharge (this could be milky or yellow fluid or blood).

    STEP 4:
Next, feel your breast's while lying down' using your right hand to feel your left breast and visa versa. Firmly, but smoothly touch the breast with the first few fingers of your hand, keeping the fingertips flat and together.
Feel each breast entirely from top to bottom, side to side, from the collar bone to the top of the your abdomen, then from the armpit to your cleavage.
Follow the same pattern each time you check your breasts- say begin at the nipple moving in larger and larger circles until you have reached the outer edge of the breast.
You can also move the fingers up and down, as if you are mowing your grass in the garden, be sure to feel all the breast, start softly then increase the pressure so you can feel deeper tissue.

    STEP 5:
If you get into the shower, wet your hands and rub them with lots of soap into the palm, then cover the breast so it is wet and slippery, cover your entire breast using the same hand movements described in step 4 - check both breasts.

    Check yourself once a month.

Examine your breasts several days after your period ends - the breasts are not so swollen and tender to touch.

Don't panic if you feel a lump most women have lumpy areas in there breast, also 8 out of 10 breast lumps that are removed are benign - not cancerous.

Each time you feel your breasts they will feel different. What is very important is to get to know them, remember if you feel something different get it checked - don't leave it and don't ask or listen to other people, only doctors can give the correct answers. See your doctor and don't waste time, that's very important.
